Psalms 137

An Experience of the Captivity.

1 By the arivers of Babylon,
There we sat down and bwept,
When we remembered Zion.
2 Upon the
Or poplars
,
dwillows in the midst of it
We ehung our
Lit lyres
harps.
3 For there our captors
Lit asked
,
hdemanded of us
Lit words of song
songs,
And jour tormentors, jubilation, saying,
“Sing for us one of the songs of Zion!”

4 How can we sing kthe Lord’s song
In a foreign land?
5 If I lforget you, Jerusalem,
May my right hand
I.e., become useless
forget its skill.
6 May my ntongue cling to the roof of my mouth
If I do not remember you,
If I do not
Lit cause to ascend
,
pexalt Jerusalem
Above my chief joy.

7 Remember, Lord, against the sons of qEdom
The day of Jerusalem,
Those who said, “Lay it bare, lay it bare
rTo its foundation!”
8 Daughter of Babylon, you
Or devastator
,
tdevastated one,
Blessed will be one who urepays you
With
Lit your requital
the retribution with which you have repaid us.
9 Blessed will be one who seizes and wdashes your children
Against the rock.
